We set off on the 11km stretch from Kingussie beach to Loch Insh finishing at Loch Insh Outdoor Centre. There are several small rapids and swifts all the way down and the biggest rapid on the day was about half way down where the River Tromie meets the River Spey. It’s a grade one rapid and many canoes have tipped because of the fast moving water. The journey took us around 3.5 hours in total. The wind was against us all day with a cool southerly hitting our faces. The Kingussie to Loch Insh stretch is RSPB protected and there are loads of sand martens nesting at the side of the river.
