On the 7th June Joe and Scott commenced a walk from St. Aidan’s Church in Aviemore to raise money for a defibrillator in Kingussie.  It was a sponsored walk with Scott acting as guide as he is local to the area and an experienced climber hill walker in the Highlands.

We followed the Speyside way from Aviemore to Dalraddy where we stopped for a break and then continued to  Kincraig for refuel overlooking Loch Insh.

It started raining heavily on the second half of the walk but that didn’t stop our progress.  We continued following winding paths through forest to the small villages of Insh, Inveruglass and Drumguish.

Near the end of our walk we passed the ruin of Ruthven Barracks, near Insh Marshes the site of the Jacobean revolution, then we passed the Kingussie Shinty Grounds and finally arrived at Our Lady of the Rosary & St. Columba Church where the Defibrillator will be installed.   We were welcomed on arrival by the parish community and members of the Kingussie community who provided a scrumptious Strawberry tea with homemade cakes, scones etc.

In total we walked 17.5 miles for Sudbury Torch and raised enough money to buy a new defibrillator for Kingussie.

It felt good to take part in something for the community and will also raise awareness for the Sudbury Torch community projects.

The new defibrillator box has been fixed to the church wall awaiting installation and commissioning of  the defibrillator.
